Welcome for Falmer stadium start
Labour city councillors, along with David Lepper MP and Simon Burgess, joined staff and players from the Albion at a ceremony to mark the start of work on the new Brighton and Hove Albion community stadium at Falmer.

Work starts at Falmer
Seagulls fan Simon Burgess said; "This is a long awaited fantastic day for the Albion - at last work is underway for the stadium that the club deserves. Like many others I have supported this ever since those terrible days when we had to travel to Gillingham and through the hard times at Withdean. The club and the fans so richly deserve this".
David Lepper said, “This is a great day for the club, for the city and for the region. This isn’t only about football. The Stadium will be a real asset to the local community. The Club has a great record of work in encouraging youngsters into sport, working with children with disabilities and its wider educational work with people of all ages. The Albion has won major national awards for this work and will now be able to do much more from its new home.
“Brighton and Hove Albion‘s supporters have stayed loyal to the club during the period when they played at Gillingham and it was good to welcome the team back to Brighton to the Withdean Stadium in my constituency. But they deserve a real home of their own.
With the other local MPs for the City I was pleased to take raise the case for the Stadium in Parliament. “
