Simon at RISE - the relaunch of the Women's Refuge

Simon Burgess joined Labour councillors and others at the relaunch of the Women's Refuge - now called RISE - in October.

Simon and Des met RISE staff with Vera Baird MP, the Solicitor General.

RISE supports women, children and young people living with the effects of domestic abuse in Brighton and Hove and West Sussex, whether the abuse is taking place now or happened in the past.

Simon, who secured ongoing funding for the Safe As Houses project in East Brighton which is run by RISE, said: "this is a positive rebranding that moves away from the idea that the only services the organisation provides is emergency accommodation. The acronym RISE informs those who use their services and work with them that they operate Refuge, Information, Services and Education.

It was good to meet more of their staff and to hear of their vital work to help people who are suffering abuse."

For more information on the services offered go to the RISE Web site.
