Tories block wind turbines
Labour slammed Conservative councillors who voted to block wind turbines - similar to the one pictured here - from being installed on the Tory-run council HQ.

Simon Burgess, who proposed the wind turbines when leader of the council, said: "I championed this proposal for the turbines at King's House not only as a practical move to cut the council's carbon emissions and cut costs to the taxpayer, but as a vital symbol of the commitment of this city to tackling climate change. I am angry that the Conservatives have sought to block the turbines at every turn - they have no genuine determination to tackle climate change."
Leader of the Labour Group on the city council Gill Mitchell added: "I am pleased to have forced the Conservatives to bring these applications to the Planning Committee where they should have been publicly discussed last June. Their voting to refuse the applications today shows that despite their warm words on climate change, local Conservative Councillors are not prepared to take the difficult decisions to really make a difference."
