Tackling domestic violence

Kemptown MP Des Turner has spoken out in support of new courts designed to help tackle the under reporting of domestic violence crime.

The new courts - one of which is in Brighton - will have separate entrances for victims and offenders, and magistrates who are experts in dealing with domestic violence cases.

Des said "This is a very welcome development. Sadly domestic violence is a problem in Brighton and Hove, just as it is pretty much everywhere."

"Under reporting of domestic violence and many other related sorts of crime is a big issue and if people are confident that they will get a proper response if they raise complaints they are more likely to do so."

Des met the Solicitor General, Vera Baird MP, who deals with many cases linked to domestic violence, when she made a Ministerial visit to Brighton. They visited the Safe As Houses project in East Brighton and heard about the work being done to tackle domestic violence locally.
