Tories adopt another Labour policy

Labour Councillors are celebrating the announcement of yet another of their key election pledges that is to be implemented by the new Conservative administration of Brighton & Hove City Council.

The Conservatives are bringing back the ‘City News’ newsletter - something that they complained about when in opposition as being “too expensive”.

Labour Leader Cllr Gill Mitchell said:

“We pledged to re-introduce a regular city-wide newsletter to help residents keep in touch with council services and events in their neighbourhoods. It’s good to see the Conservatives now agreeing that this is needed.”

Other Labour election pledges being implemented since May this year are a commitment to 40% affordable housing in all new developments, the raising of parking permit fees for high polluting vehicles and securing an agreement from the Conservative administration that they will at least consider Sunday opening for the Jubilee Library.

Cllr Mitchell added:

“We are still committed to developing future plans for the city and are talking to residents about their priorities. We will continue to push for the Sunday opening of the Jubilee Library as it is something that we are totally committed to and has huge public support.

With the lack of any visible Conservative programme for the city, it is great to see so many of our proposals becoming a reality – even in opposition!”
