Nancy Platts to contest Pavilion seat
Nancy Platts has been chosen as Labour's Parliamentary Candidate in Brighton Pavilion for the next General Election after a ballot of local Party members. Nancy currently works in the voluntary sector where she is a social justice campaigner with a track record in tackling disadvantage and social exclusion.
Nancy Platts said: "I am proud to have been selected by local Party members as Labour’s Candidate for Brighton Pavilion. Brighton has benefited greatly from ten years of a Labour Government, but there are still challenges ahead. My priorities will be to work with Gordon Brown’s new Government to improve access to affordable housing in the City and to go further on measures to tackle climate change. I look forward to campaigning with all of Brighton’s communities over the coming months and years.”
Labour's retiring MP for Brighton Pavilion, David Lepper MP said:" I am delighted that Nancy Platts has been selected as Labour's Candidate for Brighton Pavilion. Nancy already has an understanding of the concerns of local residents and is working hard on their behalf. She will make an excellent and hardworking MP for Brighton Pavilion.”
Nancy Platts worked in the public sector for the London Fire Brigade for many years before moving to the transport trade union TSSA. She has since worked in the voluntary sector where she successfully lobbied the Treasury for increased childcare support. She led a coalition of 45 organisations that included the Equal Opportunities Commission and the TUC to successfully campaign for improved maternity leave and flexible working for carers of adults. She currently works for the Child Poverty Action Group. Nancy and her partner are currently in the process of relocating to Brighton.
