Minister helps launch Labour's campaign launch

Alan Johnson MP, Secretary of State for Education, was on hand in Brighton as the City Labour Party launched its campaign for the crucial City elections on May 3rd.

The campaign launch was held in New Road, just a step from the very successful Jubilee Library. If Labour is elected in May, the Library will open on Sundays for the first time ever.

Other pledges include:

  • A Citizen's Card for city residents, giving access to local services and starting with discounts for seniors and under-18s
  • Continue to increase affordable housing when new developments are planned
  • Further action to reduce crime, with a stringer focus on violent offending
  • A regular citywide newsletter, missed by many since the Tories scrapped City News
  • An April "Spring Clean Week", working with residents and businesses to spruce up our city
  • Improving local schools, with increased attendance and better standards
  • Tackling climate change, reducing CO2 emissions and raising charges for high polluting vehicles
