Burglary and car crime in Brighton are at their lowest levels for twenty years
That's according to new independent figures released recently.
And overall, crime is down by a 1000 incidents on the previous year. This doesn't come as a surprise to Kemptown MP Des Turner as he has long been involved in campaigning on community safety issues with local communities. He was Chair of the Whitehawk Crime Prevention Forum, succeeded recently by local councillor Warren Morgan.
Des says: "The government has greatly encouraged partnership working, we tend to take it for granted now that the police, councils and the community all have a role working together to make our communities safer. A lot has been learnt in areas like East Brighton through government cash for eb4u, the regeneration partnership, with best practice now rolled out across the City. It's not just about the City either, in the east of the constituency; from Saltdean to Peacehaven, you can see how much the Police are working alongside local people.
Councillor Gill Mitchell, of the city's Community Safety Forum said "We know how much being and feeling safe means to local people.
Louise Casey of the Home Office Respect Task Force, told Cllr Warren Morgan after visiting the city: "The work you have undertaken in this area has clearly had a big impact on local people and 1 would like to take this opportunity to congratulate you on what you and your team have achieved."
