Nancy Platts for Brighton Pavilion

Nancy Platts is Labour's candidate for Brighton Pavilion at the next General Election. The current Pavilion MP, David Lepper, will be standing down at the next election after more than 10 years of remarkable service and Nancy was selected as Labour candidate by party members in June 2007.

David said: "I know that Nancy Platts will be an excellent MP for Brighton Pavilion. She has a great record as a campaigner on important national issues such as transport policy, employment rights, women, health and equality, childcare and child poverty.

"She understands the problems and the strengths of our Brighton community and will make sure the concerns of local people are heard in parliament. I am pleased to have the chance to work with her to help ensure a Labour victory under Gordon Brown's leadership at the next election."

Through her experience of leading policy and campaigns departments within the trade union movement and voluntary sector, Nancy Platts has examined and commented on a number of government policy areas.

Her contributions have covered transport, employment rights, family policy (especially childcare and parental rights as part of tackling child poverty and social exclusion), equality and low pay, and health inequalities and the NHS. She has worked with the TSSA, the transport trade union, the Daycare Trust, the national childcare campaign, as well as the Maternity Alliance, National Childbirth Trust, Child Poverty Action Group, and Breakthrough Breast Cancer.

Nancy, who lives in Hanover, has a good understanding of local and devolved government through her experience of working in the London Fire Brigade and the Greater London Authority. She has also worked with the Welsh Assembly and Scottish Parliament through UK charities.
