16,000 postcards received supporting the South Downs Campaign

In Parliament on Tuesday 27 January, David Lepper asked how many postcards had been received by the Minister and was told about 16,000 since 1 December 2008.

Nancy delivers her postcard to DEFRA

David, along with Labour's Nancy Platts, have been campaigning to demonstrate the support of thousands of local people for the National Park, while it is opposed by many Tory councils across Sussex.

Nancy says:  "This is an amazing achievement but we mustn't let up now.

"I hope that you can find a couple of minutes to help create our South Downs National Park by filling in a campaign postcard and sending it to the Rt Hon Hilary Benn MP, Secretary of State for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs. The decision is due to be made very soon.

"I recently invited Hilary Benn MP to Brighton and I explained how important this is to people in the City.  I am supporting the campaign for the South Downs to become a National Park and be protected for future generations to enjoy because this will ensure that planning regulations are consistently applied, wildlife is protected and prehistoric landscapes are conserved.

"You can contact me for a postcard or visit www.southdownscampaign.org.uk"
