Campaign starts to replace 'missing' Tory councillor

Labour has welcomed the news that 'absentee' Conservative councillor Paul Lainchbury has now resigned from the Council.

Earlier this year, Labour activist Elisabeth Telcs told local people: "Councillor Lainchbury has, at last, stopped taking his £11,000 allowance for a job he has rarely - if ever - carried out since being elected two years ago."

Now City Council officials have announced that a by-election is to be held for the seat on Thursday, July 23rd.

Elisabeth (Lis) Telcs has been working alongside the hard working community Councillor Melanie Davis since last June and will be seeking election as Labour and Co-operative candidate.

Lis has worked with the community over issues such as:

  • a new local school for Goldsmid families
  • reduced traffic speeds in residential roads
  • refuse and recycling collections, cleaner safer streets

Lis says:

"As a teacher in council primary schools for twenty years, I am dedicated to serving the public. I have a great deal of life experience which I will bring to the role, having dealt with families from all backgrounds and situations. If you are considering voting for other parties in the by-election, ask what experience their candidates would bring to the job!"

Lis has been working with Councillor Melanie Davis for over a year now on the issues that matter to residents in this part of Hove, She says: "I know very well all of the work that being a councillor involves. If elected I will do the job and take only the basic allowance set by an independent panel, I will claim no additional expenses."
