City Tories adopt yet another Labour policy
Labour Councillors are celebrating the announcement of yet another of their key election pledges that is to be implemented by the new Conservative administration of Brighton & Hove City Council.
The Conservatives are bringing back the ‘City News’ newsletter - something that they complained about when in opposition as being “too expensive”.
Labour Leader Cllr Gill Mitchell said:
“We pledged to re-introduce a regular city-wide newsletter to help residents keep in touch with council services and events in their neighbourhoods. It’s good to see the Conservatives now agreeing that this is needed.”
Go further to curb big supermarkets, says David Lepper
Labour's David Lepper, MP for Brighton Pavilion, has urged the Competition Commission to look at ways of protecting local retail businesses from the further expansion of major supermarket chains.
He says that the Commission's proposals, in its report on the grocery trade, to look at planning issues about supermarkets could increase their dominance.

Jack Straw, the Justice Secretary, announced to Parliament the government's decision to make it a crime to incite hatred because of a person's sexual orientation or perceived orientation. It will carry a maximum of sentence of seven years.
